 C. P. A. T.  Examination

The fire service is a physically and mentally demanding profession, and every firefighter must be up for the challenge. Like most fire departments, Sherrills Ford – Terrell Fire & Rescue requires that all firefighters pass a Certified Physical Agility Test (CPAT). This requirement extends to both paid staff and volunteers; from the newest rookie to the chief.

The test is timed, and has strict rules for each event. Each participant is given a description of the test, the rules and the expectations. They are required to wear full turnout gear including SCBA. In November of 2007 our test consisted of the following stations:

* Hose Follow
* Hose Carry
* Tool Carry
* Kiser Sled
* Ladder Ascension
* 200 LBS Dummy Drag

The components of future tests and time limit is yet to be determined, but you can bet that it will not get easier. If you would like to see a full description of the test and the rules email Captain Blackburn.
